The Most Difficult Holes in World Golf

The Most Difficult Holes in World Golf

There are some fabulous golf courses in the world with unique settings each displaying their own unique characteristics. Be it windswept links courses or exotic park settings, and some of them offer amazing challenges to those that play them. Here are some of the most difficult holes in world golf and take us from New Zealand to South Africa and of course the United States.

Cape Kidnappers – New Zealand

This stunning golf course has to be one of the most picturesque in world golf, perched on top of a rugged cliff line, Cape Kidnappers can literally stop your heart with its sheer awesomeness. The fifteenth hole is the jewel in the crown of this amazing course, and you better have a head for heights. On one side of the tee is an almost sheer drop of nearly one hundred and fifty meters down the cliff face. To play this hole you need a good long game as it is the longest par five on the course, and of course caution is also needed, as slightly off the course and you can end up in serious trouble.

Pebble Beach – USA

Pebble Beach Golf Course is renowned for its water hazards and by this it is not just lakes and ponds. This course is also famous for being highly challenging and also beautiful. The eighth hole is famed in golf for its difficulty, as a par-four hole it is four hundred meters long and completely surrounded by cliffs. The surrounding scenery dwarfs the player and can intimidate even the most experienced of golfers. The hole is almost impossible to play if everything is fair, but the ever-changing weather conditions of Pebble Beach means often torrential rain and gusty winds sweep down on the course.

Legend Golf and Safari Resort – South Africa

The legendary 19th hole of the Legend Golf and Safari Resort is something that could easily be in a James Bond movie. To get to the tee you need the aid of a helicopter as it is four hundred meters high. This hole is for high rolling gamblers and that is its attraction, as one million dollars are at stake. This hole has been named The Extreme 19th and is the highest golf hole on the planet. Teeing off from the elevated position the ball will hang in the air for at least twenty seconds until it hits the green which is amazingly shaped like the continent of Africa. If you do manage a hole-in-one then you will walk away with a cool one million dollars, but to give you an idea nobody has ever managed this feat. Even professional golfers such as Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia have attempted this challenge but have also failed. This golf resort also has a prized Signature Course in the center, where every one of the eighteen holes was designed by a top pro. These three golf holes are among the most difficult in the world, even seasoned professionals find them almost impossible to play, but they provide an amazing challenge to those that try to play them.
